Crowd of burka-wearing troublemakers cause havoc at Channel crossing:
@cstross Note the BBC repeating an obviously briefed line about why the police did nothing, while entirely ignoring all the other options at their disposal, *if they wanted to use them*.
With Dover ticking the terrorism and critical national infra boxes, that would have been fed back up to the chief constable, who clearly decided not to bother, not to arrest them for id, not to kettle them out of the way, etc.
Fascists 1, police 0, residents 0.
@cstross it was not a protest is was an intimidation
@cstross Masked blackshirts block busy port - no arrests. Ninety year old priest holds up a homemade placard declaring genocide evil, arrested right away as a "terrorist". Starmer's legacy to the UK, and I don't see Burnham rushing to change anything.
@cstross 'Kent Police, which made no arrests, described it as a "spontaneous" protest'
but if I got some of my friends together protested to stop boats burning environmentally-damaging fuel, especially if we all carried bike locks, we would be instantly arrested and charged with terrorism and other offences.
Interesting how Farage made a stronger condemnation than the leaders of the other major political parties (although that was about facemasks).
