Germany spent approximately a lifetime working itself out from under the shadow of O.G. Nazism - today, all of that might be undone & people will once again default to assuming that if they're hearing a german accent, that person is probably goose-stepping to work every day.
I'm not kidding; if any part of a nation with their history lets the fash back in, it will look like they were just biding their time & none of the "Never again" was sincere.
Tomorrow morning, the polling places open in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt for their state elections.
The blue line at the top of this polling chat is Putin's favorites, the far right populists of the AfD party.
Deeply unserious, deeply corrupt, and has deep ties to Russia — but they offer a normalization of racism, and apparently that is what voters want.
If they win tomorrow, I will not spend a single euro in Saxony-Anhalt for as long as their fascist shadow hangs over this state.
