I still view 3D printing as "slow replication" a la Star Trek. And the printer case and door continually remind me of the test teleportation receiving cabinet in the original "The Fly" (1958).

Actually, an even earlier version was in an original "Twilight Zone" episode (Valley of the Shadow - 1963) where a man stumbles across a small town with highly advanced tech. One of the devices they show him is a replicator that creates objects from printed paper cards with the molecular formula encoded on them. Very much like a 3D model STL or 3MF file. Way ahead of Star Trek replicators. Oh yes, and then there's the point-to-point teleportation chambers (called "evaporators") in the 1953 WB cartoon: "Duck Dodgers in the 24 1/2 Century."
@lauren I will now be quoting this cartoon all night.
I seriously thank you
