I think re: the EFF thing, there's a series of ideas we once thought were liberating, because we thought they were ideas that would help us to fight power. Those ideas clearly now serve power. It's time to unlearn them
the tl;dr is that we need to abandon cyberlibertarianism for cybercommunism
Cyberlibertarianism could have been the book that taught us to unlearn them but unfortunately it was a total mess, but it did reveal oh yeah the guy who wrote the crypto anarchist manifesto was a white supremacist. or you read that book on the cult of the dead cow and you realize they had CIA handlers.
Cyberlibertarianism wasn't the book we needed, but there's still a revisionist history of digital culture that is yet to be written
@julieofthespirits That's the book David wanted, but he didn't manage to finish it. What we have now is what his editor put together after he died.
@davidgerard I kind of suspected that, it kind of has the same 2666 feel of "this could have been a banger if the guy had lived longer to properly edit it"
@julieofthespirits mind you he was organising it for like 10-15 years, so
just imagining what he'd have made of the AI bubble, just getting going when he died but not in its full ah splendour
