This one will hurt: I love 1Password as a product. But I'm the son of a concentration camp survivor. I will not give money to companies that align themselves with nationalism, and certainly not ethnic cleansing. Completely disappointing, @1password. https://www.flyingpenguin.com/dhh-nazism-funded-by-1password-vp-who-wrote-honest-security/
"Trump Says He's a 'Nationalist'" - The New York Times
All those supporters are also nationalist'.
"'I am a nationalist,' Trump proclaims at Houston rally"
"New York Times' Proof that Trump Is Now a Fascist "
Noted; NYT is a co-conspirator to fascism or state press.
Won't hear them do a story on how billionaire fascist overthrew the USA.
@ben @1password @thomasfuchs Our business adopted both 1Password and Basecamp when those products were new. Canceled Basecamp after DHH bullshit London post, canceling 1Password today.
@ben @1password this piece is solid. It is missing what I think was the most outrageous post, with the explicit call to action at the end:
https://world.hey.com/dhh/three-sacred-cows-that-must-die-so-europe-can-live-1afb203d
@ben never beholden yourself to just one company. always have a backup in the wind, just in case.
@ben @1password Disappointing is such a gentle word…
Unbelievable and unacceptable indeed!
@ben @1password So happy I cancelled earlier this year, dont even have to do anything with this mask off
@ben @1password It's an absolute tragedy and I think at this point they likely will not take their move back unfortunately. Had a look at Passbolt and Proton Pass also looks promising.
@ben @1password Well. It's as they said: they already have a strong membership in that community.
And there we see their justification: a fuck ton of money.
Is what it is. Don't go hoping you can change their minds.
@ben@werd.social @1password I bought a version 7 license and never bought the subscription and I'm glad I didn't. I've been working to divest from subscription-based things for some time now. Every product that claims to provide "convenience" these days deserves a good look under the microscope. 1pw big thing is password sync? That's a minor inconvenience I'm willing to shoulder myself.
@ben @1password Same here. I need to find an alternative.
@ben @leavex @1password I have left 1Password years ago. And until they have those far-right ideas, I won't join them again. I am a woman, and I am blind; far-right is openly against disability rights, they started with eugenic (sterilizing and killing disabled people) even BEFORE they started with concentration camps; and I have no intention to give my money and data, to someone who willingly finance such ideas.
@BorrisInABox How small is the world! We met on line maybe in 2000 or 2001, you gave me tricks to make DecTalk sing! Damn, sometimes we go around and around then find ourselves in the same places. If you don't remember me, it's because I changed nickname plenty of times then.
@elettrona Yep, I remember you. Greetings.
@BorrisInABox Fuck, more than 25 years!
@ben I'm bringing this up because I've found you to be a deeply thoughtful person and it's something I've been struggling with...
There has to be a difference between a 1Password, whose crime is funding a project that is led by someone with hateful views and a Palantir, whose entire business is to empower authoritarianism, right?
I feel like we need a #FashTech tier list.
@stanley I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt - it’s just a tech deal - until the CEO came out in support of DHH and his worldview personally. That’s untenable to me.
@ben I haven’t seen that? Where did David Faugno post such a thing?
@ben Oof, I missed that.
I guess I'm dreading trying to explain to my wife that we may need to change password managers because of these twisted relationships and wondering if maybe I'm being overly reactionary.
For example, I have a Framework laptop and they've supported Omarchy in the past. But would switching to Lenovo or Dell really be any better? What's the harm I'm trying to address?
@stanley But in answer to your wider question: I agree that this isn’t Palantir. It’s a different class of thing. But the CEO will use his money in ways that are in line with his values. I’ll give them a minute to course correct, but I’m already migrating my data out.
