Just a thought: algorithmic social media is doing the same thing to online communities that cars did to cities. It is creating little pockets of isolated individuals in a sea of people instead of creating communities. It gives people an impression of being surrounded by people without actually forming real connections

Most of my (yes, IRL) friends I met on social media first.
You have to actually engage and do the work to get to know people—I agree that thinking the “trending topics” timeline is your friends is delusional.
