A few weeks ago, I went into a design furniture store in Denmark to buy a garden furniture set. We had a great conversation about their beautiful products right until the point where I realized they conditioned their price on the registration of my data, or I would have to pay 40 percent more.
So I did what I always do (picture 1).

@randahl Well done. I never share my data, often solicited on the pretext of being necessary for warranty purposes. If the person requesting is a young lady asking for my phone number (all they need, it's a key to a lot they can match) I say "thanks very much but I'm already married". Sometimes they blush.
In some cases a manager has to unlock the till so a payment can happen without my data. In my experience British businesses are the worst for this.

Perhaps look up their GDPR officer - as far as I know, "pay us to follow the gdpr" is no more legal than "pay us not to break your leg".
@randahl I have read that now a couple of times about shopping experiences similar to yours in Denmark. 40% markup is absurdly high. 
Is that common in Denmark? Why is that even legal?
@raisondetredev I think it is legal because no one challenges it. According to our trade legislation, price differentiation has clear limitations. For instance, a bar was convicted for offering a lower entry fee for women.
Here they are offering a higher price to people who oppose data registration.

I've long been thinking that we need legislation that designates storing customer data as "toxic waste" - in that it needs to be heavily safe-guarded and protected at great cost … so that no one actually wants to keep details.
