Just want to let it be known that it is super creepy how the entire country hangs on high-profile murder trials; I am not aware that my fellow Americans even realize this isn't a TV show. It's particularly bad when the trial is infanticide related because holy shit man, I am worried about what y'all find "engaging."

@AnarchoNinaWrites Similarly, I find the whole true crime genre creepy as fuck. I accept that people have always found this stuff fascinating but spending so much time revelling in it seems really very unhealthy.
@Nickiquote @AnarchoNinaWrites trauma sympathy bonding and hoping that if it happens to them, someone will care is a HUGE part of the attraction, it's not a coincidence that true crime audiences has a demographic that skews to women and minorities.
@Taco_lad @Nickiquote I feel that, and I'm not one to judge - but it almost feels like it's split into two industries now, because I've seen a ton of "true crime shows" the past 5 years, on TV, on YouTube, on podcasts that are more or less "a more personal version of Breitbarts "Black Crime" ticker." It's very racist-coded, it's very "defend the white womins" coded.
