so at dayjob some are thinking about replacing our ubuntu vms with RHEL. main arguments are extended support and kernel live-paching via kpatch. living in this timeline i have my doubts with entangling with a second US-based company besides microsoft. does someone have technical arguments against this beside the obvious politcal. thinking about how long it took for redhat to distribute the copyfail patch also comes to my mind.

@neverpanic@chaos.social you are right. it's called livepatch (i think it's just a kpatch wrapper) and i previously had the wrong impressions that it's only possible in combination with launchpad (which has no on-prem version - dealbreaker), but the documentation [1] states there is an on-prem server for livepatch.
livepatching would help us quite a lot as possible maintinence windows are very rare and due to the latest storm of vulnerabilities we have to keep our servers on track.
