the trick to be the fun adult is to just treat kids as tiny people who have plenty of interiority and can draw pretty good inferences from the world around them
like yes they're lacking some ability but uh. yes, they are also sponges and have soaked up more than you think (even after accounting for knowing that they are sponges!)
@Ashedryden Kids are way smarter than adults give them credits for
in particular, if you're brushing a kid off with a BS excuse or playing dumb or whatever, a lot of the time they *will* know you're doing it
which like, sometimes it can kinda be fun to do the latter and they get "frustrated" with you and it's a little game. but the former is a trap a lot of adults fall into, I guess because it's hard to think of them that way but also recognize that they don't have a lot of experience with the world so perceptions *are* skewed
@SnoopJ so, I was standing on the Washington St bridge last week with my very fancy camera, and a guy and his grandson were walking by. He stopped to talk about what I was doing and show the kid (Louis (LEW-eee)) what I'm doing with my fancy camera. Kid asks me if I'm a real photographer or if I'm just some dude with a fancy camera. I said what's the difference? Figuring I'm leading to the key question of who's an artist etc.
This kid, who's like 8 or 9, looks at me and he says: I guess what I'm wondering is if you're one of those people who buys a grand piano for your living room.
