@serapath I've been thinking for years that there was something like this going on. My personal pet theory has been that we are free to select people more and more like ourselves the more connected we get, which leads to an intensified echo chamber effect. I found this to be an interesting alternative (or maybe complementary) mechanism.
@serapath Before 2010, I couldn't find fellow autistic people to talk to. After that, communities started forming. There are definitely some positives to being more connected. The drawback is that people like QAnon and Trumpsters can also find each other and thereby mutually reinforce their absurd and vile beliefs.
yeah, but i think it is also a choice.
i am really happy to be able to find ppl who are likeminded and even today it is still hard.
But i think more people should also join the various echo chambers far away from their personal ideas, at least as observers - to at least have a first hand awareness of why and how people think so differently.
It is definitely a choice!
The existence of a mathematical model doesn't take that away. The model only explains the effects of people's tendencies and choices. It doesn't dictate them.
@hosford42 hmm, i am not sure what you mean by mathematical model. I very much imagine having even just a few links between echo chambers that can communicate issues across even if its just indirectly, might trigger highly complex dynamics - ...i guess kind of like the buttferly causing a thunderstorm.
I think that is also really needed, because just having echo chambers can potentially leqd to conflict escalations nobody benefits from.
