@blogdiva Here's a hot take from the Original Safari Girl™ (accept no substitutes):

Tell your friend to do what I've done: install Firefox (or one of it's clones) on all their devices and then *immediately* install uBlock Origin and Privacy Badger afterwards. Follow that up with setting the search engine to noai.duckduckgo.com or something more palatable but still safe.

And use the default browser on their machines (Safari, Edge, etc.) only as a compatibility crutch in time of desperate need.

@lisamelton what do you think of Kagi as a search engine? See that you noted DDG here, but would trust you over pretty much anyone and I’ve been a Kagi user for the past year-ish?

@cameronbanga Kagi works. But I don't want to pay for getting more than a limited number of searches every month. Also, they seem completely enamored with bullshit LLM integration so that's a big turnoff.

@lisamelton yeah, hear you on that. But in some ways, it feels good to pay for a product vs. being the product. But I do respect and like DDG, just like the Kagi customization options I think? But very much trust your opinion so was curious to hear.

One of my favorite “computer accomplishments”, was moving my now late mother from Google to DDG, explaining how search engines worked. I just explained Google and she found DDG on her own and was a huge fan/exclusive user!

@lisamelton I'm going to give it a go. See how much I twitch about not using Safari. It's just ingrained in me. Although it does *seem* faster on my 2013 Mac Pro (OpenCore).
