Anyone have Dropbox replacement you really like?
- I specifically don’t want to self-host
- It needs to have seamless macOS integration
- It needs to work for small teams
- I need automated full backup to our Synology NAS
Please only recommend anything you personally use and like.
@thomasfuchs Well, I don't have all your use cases but I replaced Dropbox with NextCloud & I'm perfectly happy with it. Pretty sure it can be set up for various sync options but I don't even use photo sync from my phone so can't speak to that - but integration between Mac, iPhone & Droid has given me zero problems so far (about 1,5 years in).
I don't selfhost BTW; my host is thegood.cloud, but SH is obviously an option with NC.
@jwcph gtk, I was thinking of that as maybe an option
OwnCloud or NextCloud? Most cloud providers offer this. Synology doesn’t care from which sources you do backup, and you can create an encrypted area on the Synology NAS for secured backups.
@_RyekDarkener_ fwiw I’m using Synology Cloud Sync rn which has (among others) Dropbox support, but as along as there’s _something_ to automate it for me I’m fine (I only need Cloud → NAS transfer, not both ways).
As far as I remember Cloud Sync works with every filesystem which is available via Internet. If not then there are several other Synology features which should do the trick.

@thomasfuchs I have been using Syncthing for years now to replace Dropbox in my life. I'm not sure it's exactly the right solution for you (I don't know how it handles "small teams"), but I was able to get it installed on my QNAP NAS (via a Docker container) for backing up and it works really well.
@malcircuit I use Syncthing for some stuff and love it, but I’m specifically looking for something that has a hosted element (for in-browser access and managed backups)
@thomasfuchs Ah, okay. Yeah, I'm sure if that's possible with Syncthing. I wouldn't be surprised if someone has figured out how to do something like that, but I also wouldn't be surprised if it's not very stable or maintained.
@thomasfuchs sadly, I don’t have a recommendation, but I’m very curious as to what folks mention.
@thomasfuchs I know people have there issues with every service, but Proton Drive works well for me.
