My mom did this in her PA small town and it worked. You can do it too. Today is a weekday and you may need to make some calls during business hours. If you live in an area where you even suspect a datacenter could be constructed your first task is to find out if there is one in the pipeline.

Next you need to find out if there are any public forums coming up, and when they will occur.

In this process you may find others who have already done much of the work.

If you have good organizational skills and can call and navigate local governments finding these events, making lists and suggestions of dates and places to show up can have a big impact.

15 people with signs is basically a nightmare. If the 15 also planned something to say in unison even if it's just "NO Datacenter" that's even worse.

It's easy to get all kinds of people to come to these kinds of events. They aren't very risky. It's fun.

Really finding the when/where is the worst part.

If you don't like going to big public events don't worry about this too much, there is a lot of good work you can do from home just connecting people with the information.

Some people have claimed that there is a secret China-funded astro turf campaign to hold America back by making people hate datacenters. Sadly this isn't true. (sadly because there is real work that we need to do, and no one gets paid)

I don't really think China cares about this anyway. But it's a cute story.

Next monday there will be a public meeting in my hometown, about an empty area in my town where they wanted to build appartments and shops and now are throwing these plans into the bin and want to build a DATA-CENTER (allegedly one of amazon) .😡

This was written in my newspaper today. No time to make big plans

I will be there. I will stand in front of the hall with a sign saying no to a data center, and later when it starts I will go in there to join the meeting. I am so pissed.

Today was the public meeting of the building comitee of my hometown about this empty area.
I showed up with a sign. On one side I wrote in huge letters:
Data Center Go Home!
in small around it I wrote some short arguments reasons:
- our water
- our electricity
- data centers are not housing
- are not bringing jobs
- the dont pay taxes - (since when did amazon ever pay even one dime taxes in Germany) and will have enormous loss carryforwards so no taxes for decades.
