# What AI Chatbots Can Teach Us About Unmet Legal Needs
This is interesting, albeit with a very narrow focus.
In quite a few of the examples here, it looks as if the use of genAI was an alternative to using a search engine.
I thought that this was particularly revealing (and worrying):

I am sceptical that we need better genAI for legal queries.
Perhaps UBI, a better standard of living, and broader, better access to legal aid and other actual human legal support?
@neil We certainly don't need the kind of AI that's had judges up in arms about falsified references to invented cases and incoherent arguments.
@neil It is sad but not surprising that AI is taking over a lot of work that was once funded through civil legal aid (employment and housing disputes), and that clients aren't particularly happy in areas like conveyancing where the only viable business model is churning through high volumes without lots of personal service.
Also, the user wanting "normal person language" would have benefitted from there being a secretary to translate a note into a readable letter/email.

I appreciate that different people have different communications needs, and different standards of literacy.
I wonder - obviously without access to any of the actual facts here - if this is something that the person who wrote the letter might be able to do better.
