I know that all the academics are on LinkedIn now so I have to post announcements etc. there, but it's an uncomfortable and unsettling experience actually reading it. Why do they put up with it? It's kind of sickening.

There's a few PIs I know who have totally drunk the kool aid and are posting all kinds of thought leader-esque nonsense on there.
@neuralreckoning LinkedIn is more like SlopedIn these days. (And before that it was still extremely performative)
It's also really weird to feel the effects of their algorithm, like, I answer to 1 post about peer-reviewing there and the next 100 posts I see will be about peer-review 😣
Unfortunately this is also where I find most posts about new papers coming out these days, so that's why I put up with it personally, but I would rather everyone was on here, of course :)
@elduvelle I don't think I can actually make myself read the feed, for me it will be a write-only platform I think.
@elduvelle I read some guidance on how to change the settings to improve the experience. It helped but LinkedIn is still awful. The best tip is to switch Sort by to Recent rather than Top.
The real villain here is the person who bought and nuked Twitter. It caused a diaspora and now there is no good place for science social media, finding papers etc.

@steveroyle @elduvelle oh that's a good tip about the sort by. I do that on Bluesky and used to do it on twitter, but I hadn't noticed the option was there on LinkedIn too - makes it much better based on a quick look (all I could stomach this morning).
