I want to drive you back.
I know you're grossed out by your parent's music.
But.
Whabout your grandparent's music, or their parent's music, or theirs or theirs?
There is *insanely* good music in there.
Look, I'm an amateur musicologist specializing in 20th century popular music.
And it's Sturgeon's Law pretty much everywhere all the time.
But there's that 10%, from the 20s, the 30s, the 40s, the 50s, the 60s, the 70s, the 80s, and yes, even your parent's awful 90s.
@GeePawHill I've tried to go back further than my parents' music, but I've yet to find anything I like before electric instruments became standard.
But even as a teen, I liked most of my parents' stuff! I still love Dr. Hook and ABBA. And my uncle got me into Sabbath (accidentally). 😂
@moxie Gimme an era or two to target?
@GeePawHill Basically anything before the 1950s. I've tried blues, because it's the basis for many of my favourite genres (metal, Southern rock, R&B), but it didn't hit me in the dopamines. 😭
@moxie The 40s are hard, I freely admit it. Big band jazz is one of my hardest things.
