@RickiTarr People joke about men not crying. They describe the (awful) plight of a poor woman of color, and laugh at man-flu, and marvel about the faux-stoicism and the emotionally unreachable men they know.
And I get it, I do.
But I think they don't understand how many men have already heard "I'll give you something to cry about." Before age 7.

The most impactful book I've ever read was "I don't want to talk about it" by Terrance Real. He discusses a generational, cultural, and systemic neutering of emotions in boys leading to a cycle that perpetuates it.
It was truly life changing for me.
@fullywoolly @RickiTarr If I recollect, bell hooks cited Real's work in her books about how and why to love men.
@GeePawHill @RickiTarr Funny you say that, I just started reading "Feminism is for Everybody" but maybe not the right book or haven't gotten there yet. It was a recommendation from someone on here that led me to bell hooks too.
@fullywoolly @RickiTarr At times, I have found her hard to sit quietly to. But I think her heart is good.
