@bds it's not too bad. A little stiff, but certainly more comfortable than a lot of laptops that came after.
And it's 100% solid state. No moving parts. Runs for a week's worth of regular use (or more!) on rechargeable AAs. Instant on, 4 pcmcia slots, serial and irda.

I mean, I'm sure you could kill the batteries in a 12 hour stress test or whatever.
But I use mine for writing. Unlit screen, no radio, no moving parts, aggressive standby plus instant wake from sleep... I've used it for multiple hours a day, 5 days a week for multiple weeks in a row on a single set of rechargeable AAs.
mine will have wifi before the end of the month, we'll see what that does to the battery!
@ajroach42 This reminds me very much of my 1400 CS which was my very, very favorite Mac laptop ever. I even upgraded the processor to a G3 myself!
The keyboard on it was just a delight to use. Just the right angle for my fingers, springy, responsive... wow do I miss that machine.
It's sitting in the garage in a tub. I have not been able to revive it since the motherboard died, but it will still turn on without the floppy disk insert in the bay. I just can't get it connected to any other computer, printer, or the Internet. Last browser it ran was Netscape 3.1. 😩
I imagine if I put my mind to it I could figure out a kludged cable to at least make it a standalone writing machine and to get it to talk to a printer, though.
That's one of those projects I imagine doing after I'm fully retired. (I've got an M1 MacBook Air on the bench waiting for that same free time to replace the daughter board and trackpad cable as well, sigh...)
@arisummerland That is a great little box.
This one is substantially smaller, passive LCD, no light, 4 color grayscale.
But it shipped in an optional 100% solid state config that'd run for two weeks of daily usage on 4 rechargeable AAs, with instant resume.

@mewsleah it's sunlight readable and plenty big, there's very little about it I'd change.
@ajroach42 how is it in low-ish light conditions, though? i don't see a lot of sunlight
@mewsleah about the same as paper. In normal room lighting its fine. In dim room lighting or actual low light, it helps to have a reading lamp.
