the trait i've come to identify as most foul in proprietary software and everything non-free-software is: betrayal.
i avoid proprietary software because, eventually, it will betray me. it will do something against my interest in favor of its creator, or owner, or whomever is in control of the hardware it runs on.

I will never use an IDE or editor which isn't open and available on all of the platforms that I use. I will not have my tools taken away from me. The vim ecosystem is doing stuff I don't want, but at least leaving it behind is _my_ choice.
The remaining proprietary thing that's important to me is Fusion 360. The libre tools are just _so far_ away from being good enough for what I do. Every time I open up Fusion I pray they haven't altered the deal further and I hate it.
i've long had beef with fsf for their stance of shunning proprietary software, forbidding its acolytes from talking about its existence, instead of education about how and when it can betray you
i play some proprietary games because i understand that although it has the power to betray me, i can weigh that against how likely it is to happen before i no longer care
more and more often lately i feel that same sense of betrayal from people using and even creating "free software"
i haven't sworn off free software, or copyleft, or any of that, because it does still seem necessary. but joining the choir: it is insufficient
and today the distinction between software that will vs. won't betray me no longer lies along the same divider as proprietary vs. free
i'm firmly in the non-betrayal camp, and it does my mental health mountains of good to see that many of you are too. but i don't know what we're calling it yet, i don't know what our banner looks like
