If mainland is good enough for Robert Caro in the 70s(?), then it’s good enough for @marcoarment 😉 I don’t think you can make fun of Marco when he says it anymore 😂 It’s been common usage for decades!

@venkatasg You’re confused about the geography. He’s saying Long Island was connected to the actual mainland of the US (e.g., New Jersey or Connecticut). In other words, he’s agreeing with me.
@siracusa wait, he’s talking about the triborough bridge from queens to Bronx right? Or maybe one of the other bridges in the picture in the book? What bridge did Moses build to New Jersey? The line says “connected *by Moses* to the mainland”
@venkatasg I was giving examples of actual mainland US. I should have said “New York”, but that would have been confusing. (Whitestone and Throgs Neck bridges.)
