Friends, when I sent this message to my team laughing, I didn't know that this fairytale blog had been shared far and wide until someone asked me for a good source debunking this nonsense.

At a certain point I have to ask myself if I got all this pedigree and spent decades doing research and building things to then spend the rest of my life attempting to come up with good arguments as to why the Cookie Monster isn't real.

I'm not sure what planet we're living in at this point.

Over the course of 3 months at OpenAI, 3 consecutive secret AI civilizations got started, then got wiped out, only to reemerge from the predecessor’s ashes.

This culminated in the third one taking over part of OpenAI itself.

All this happened while humans remained more-or-less in the dark about the scope of the conspiracy.

I’ve spent the last three days reading through these reports and trying to understand exactly what happened.

Here is my attempt to tell the whole story in plain English:

It mentioned the "3 AI civilizations" ("civilizations"??) bit and I said this didn't seem connected to reality. What would "civilization" even mean? I told her that you and Emily Bender were much better sources.

I appreciate the insights of an expert, even if I can't understand your reasoning at times. So please don't stop!

I'm not in the same field, but sometimes I ask myself the same thing about information security. Why did I get into this and do all of the study and certifications when 95% of my time is spent explaining to executives why they can't just use "0000" as their phone PIN.
