Londoners can hire self-driving taxis for the first time, after rides in Wayve’s autonomous cars were added to the Uber app this morning. It’s not yet the full techno-future experience: so far there are only 15 of the robotaxis across the whole capital, and each one has a human in the front seat ready to take over in an emergency.
@kibcol1049 Is this cheaper than a taxi with a human driver? If not, what's the point?
@TimWardCam @kibcol1049 ...this exact question has been playing on a loop in my mind.... why bother with driverless anything?
@havvyhh2 @TimWardCam @kibcol1049
I assume you've never been subjected to a far right, racist taxi driver's stream of comments?
@Walrus @havvyhh2 @TimWardCam @kibcol1049
But having a far right, racist person in the front seat merely ready to take over is better?
@urlyman @Walrus @havvyhh2 @TimWardCam @kibcol1049 I would rather have a racist prick in the front seat who complains about immigrants taking whatever job he had than a robot I know is scanning my biometrics to provide the techno fascists information about me, or worse, to kidnap me later when they learn where I am. At least the racist won't remember you once your out the car.
