The English language Wikipedia for the term `Abya Yala` is really poorly written in a way that feels quite diminishing.
Currently the opening sentence is:
"Abya Yala (from the Guna language: 'Abiayala', meaning 'mature land') is used by some Indigenous peoples of the Americas to refer to the Americas. The term is used by some indigenous organisations, institutions, and movements as a symbol of identity and respect for the land one inhabits."
@liaizon I'm not surprised you're finding "poorly written" pages on Wikipedia. I had to rewrite a page about a community I belonged to for 13 years, as it looked like the original was composed by some primitive AI bot.
I suspect there's a lot of AI slop on Wikipedia.

Something like "Abya Yala is an anti-colonial name for the colonized continents commonly referred to as The Americas" feels more appropriate as an opening sentence.
Why the absolute fuck does The World Bank have a section in the definition for `Indigenous peoples`
"People of American descent can be found internationally. As many as seven million Americans are estimated to be living abroad, and make up the American diaspora"
`American diaspora` was merged with `Emigration from the United States` which is entirely not the same fucking thing

@liaizon Well it's written in the source, because the World Bank needs an operating definition to pursue its stated goal of supporting (or at least not hurting) said peoples with its financing activities. (They did a lot of damage in the past.)
