The most important part of the article is a few paragraphs in:

@sundogplanets Thanks for sharing. I linked this article in my Signal-Storys. Together with a comment that is kind of a verbal translation of your rage screams. I cannot put into words how angry I feel and how frustrated at the same time.
@sundogplanets 1.5° was determined to be past of point of no return because beypnd it, we enter a self feeding loop with huge amounts of methane released from permafrost areas, and smaller ice sheets means reduced albedo and more heat retained. And once started, that is unstoppable.
The messaging around climate change really needs to be "keep fighting." Even if you need to lay down in the woods and stare up at the trees and cry for a little while (like I did earlier today).
Keep fighting. Take breaks to recharge yourself, where you connect with the land you're on to make sure you keep remembering why it's worth fighting for.
I think it's a problem that we're thinking in terms of messaging. The public are onboard and have been for a long time.
There isn't a party I can vote for who will do anything meaningful on climate change. And that applies to most if not all of the world.
Scientists treating this as an issue of awareness, rather than working across disciplines to join the dots and present it in terms of political economy, is the problem.
And that problem stems from scientists viewing the media as an impartial middleman to be won over rather than as a hostile defender of the status quo.
If scientists are hoodwinked by the media and political representatives of oligarchy into defining a point of no return as a PR exercise then they've only got themselves to blame when people believe it's exactly what they said it was and give up. There's only one party there who didn't do their jobs.
@sundogplanets I tend to agree with the thrust of the article. Even under the best circumstances, I've long suspected that practical improvements would only be around the edges, and couldn't significantly slow the overall trends. And of course, getting anyone to care about this when they don't have health care and enough food and a place to live is a tough slog. That's just human nature.
