It sure would have been nice if, in our current era of vibe-coded OSes, we had cross-browser support for the show*Picker family of methods
They could've serve as a OS-neutral escape hatch for writing local-first document-oriented apps while worrying less about the underlying OS
But, y'know, we can't have nice things.
(Trusting Firefox and Apple rhetoric on these proposals turns out to have been a bit dumb in hindsight 🤷♂️ )
@baldur I must admit, I've come around on this whole thing. I used to sour on the idea of adding too much "OS" nitty-gritty to the web. Great for native app wrappers to provide that to web apps, but do I really need USB device access in a browser?!
At this point, I want all the APIs all the time. 😆 Native app stores have become a wasteland of grift. I've stripped my phone down to the bare minimum.
@jaredwhite Yeah, it'd be a different story if the whole native app landscape wasn't such a mess.
