I had a colleague who once lost their debit card and due to a combination of events their bank could not get a new one to them for two weeks. Their bank is pretty old school and would not give you the new card details online or in app (they said to wait for the card) so could not pre add it to ApplePay or similar.
For two weeks they basically used cash in Norway (which is wierd here), which they borrowed off their parents. I said at the time, just do a credit card application and kill it later.
This is a year or two ago but I thought of it now when I did a credit card application for a specific purpose. I did the online form last night and was into the app with card details I could use this morning.
I feel like Norwegians are so adverse to credit cards they will not even do it for a limited use case like this.
Yes credit cards can be bad but if you just pay off the balance in full, no big deal.
I have lived in both the US and the UK and credit cards are super common place in both countries.
People do have them here but they are far more against having them then anyone I ever met in the US or UK.
Again I am not saying they are a good thing for all people in all cases but they can have their place.
Actually my colleague would not even have had to setup a credit card. they could have just opened an account with Wise, Revolut or similar, which takes 10-15 mins, then done an account transfer to add cash and used a virtual debit card associated with their account.
