Just thinking of how fun Rednote was when everyone fled there from TikTok. I miss my Chinese spy.
Never tried rednote but I came across that name when TikTokocalypse happened
It's easy to gloss over how historically significant that mass cultural exchange actually was.
It was entertaining, but also kind of dystopian to watch Americans realize that much of the propaganda about China was false. And the Chinese to realize that much of the propaganda about the US was true. Horrified conversations about credit scores, healthcare costs, mass surveillance, societal expectations etc. But also really friendly language exchanges, recipes shared and the universal cat tax.
@Gina it was really lovely, still is and can be!
I really hope that @joinloops will become a good alternative some day.
I understand the spirit in which you made your comment. I would argue that it already IS, but like Mastodon, etc., you have to set your user experience dial to "curiosity" and not "billions of dollars backed this to kill your wallet, privacy, and attention". I find it cleaner and more peaceful because I curated that content for myself. I am not a purist, however. 15 years of complacency/inertia for millions on Meta/TT will make moving hard.
@Gina @fiend4coffee @joinloops It will as we get more users
@Gina I have yet to try that app, how is it?
@fiend4coffee @joinloops It works well, functionally. @dansup is doing a really good job at it. Now it just needs community.
@Gina @fiend4coffee yeah, the app is okay, the content is really bad though. (And unlike text and picture based streams like here, these short form videos really are "content")
@Gina cool, yup def
