Can someone explain to me what it would mean and why it would be bad for "China to beat the US in the AI race?" I'm having trouble understanding how this could have any traction as an argument at all? What would this "defeat by China" look like? Materially speaking?
Do me a little steel man on this nonsense I'm having trouble doing it myself.
There is another question here. Why do we need to build so many datacenters all over the place to "stay in the AI race" why can't we just use the ones that we already have, and maybe upgrade some for research into more efficient and effective uses of the technology?
This build out only makes sense if the race isn't about having some kind of amazing software but rather about deploying the software and technology to control the population.
And then I ask again: what do datacenters do for ME?

@futurebird SpaceX IPO'ed on the premise xAI will have revenue equivalent to the US economy. That doesn't make sense. AI doesn't make sense. So the explanation for most AI "truths" is vibes. Deluded economist vibes.
@futurebird The main thing I can think of is disrupting US's international dominance of the tech industry. And then if US industry became dependent on China it would give them trade and eventually military power.
OK. That makes some sense but nobody is going to care about that.

as rising temperatures bring everyone closer to food insecurity, resources could eventually become more scarce, which could put more pressure on future heads of state to try to annex more territory
