I think I'm going to wipe this machine later and try again with Windows 7 instead of 😜 on the theory that the tablet drivers are more likely to work on Windows 7 on account of 😜 never having been supported for this laptop, Gentoo instead of NetBSD since NetBSD doesn't seem to have drivers for this tablet, and probably this version of 9front because the release art work is literally a drawing of this laptop https://9front.org/releases/2025/01/19/0/
I got really excited to try more things last night and re-installed 9front back to the most recent version and just clobbered the boot loader on the theory that I can fix it later. The tablet drivers still don't work though. The very kind and patient @sirjofri has been helping me sort it out though. We've got it narrowed down to aux/wacom maybe not implementing the protocol entirely correctly as a potential cause. I'll probably be diving into 9front driver development this weekend 😎
this all feels very much in the spirit of "we do these things not because they're easy but because we thought they would be easy" 😅
and that's entirely on me because a reasonable person would see all the signs on the 9front website and docs that say things like "GO AWAY! YOU ARE LOST! DO NOT INSTALL! YOUR GPS IS LYING TO YOU! TURN BACK!" and not come to the conclusion that this is a weekend project at best
i knew the color reproduction on this screen was going to be something far far away from ground turth but holy smokes this gamut is dog shit
it's kinda charmingly awful tbh
