I just remembered that we used to have to park our drive heads on MFM and RLL hard drives. There was a "PARK" command you'd use to tell it to move the drive heads off the platters, so if you were physically moving your computer, you wouldn't have to worry about it banging into the platters.

@GeePawHill @waldoj Fun urban legend about moving a huge vertical platter drive in the 1960s (maybe Bryant 4000?). It was loaded into a truck before being properly spun down. Truck turned a corner; disk, being a giant gyroscope, continued straight ahead.
