I eventually got back in by changing my password from a Mac that was still signed into this Apple ID, but that revoked all my app-specific passwords, which was a giant pain.

…and now I'm locked out again.

I've had to "unlock" my developer Apple ID once every 5 days on average for the past three months, and once per day for the past three days.

Each time I do it, I have to perform a delicate dance to navigate what seems to be some kind of request throttling that gives me HTTP 503 responses during the unlock process, making it impossible to complete its several steps. Then my session times out and I have to start over.

I've been trying to unlock my ID for about an hour so far this morning…

The best part is when the HTTP 503 responses prevent the CAPTCHA from loading.

Like this morning, I just could not get through the unlock process on the web. 503 responses from Apple would not let me progress. And I can’t find a way to unlock my account from a Mac that is still signed into that Apple ID.

This time, I used a “Recovery Contact” (who is also me, on another Apple ID) to get it unlocked.

Guess I’ll try calling Apple support again tomorrow…

@siracusa FIOS? I had ghosts in the machine to specific IP blocks with an otherwise rock solid FIOS connection. For cost reasons switched to inferior Xfinity but the ghosts also disappeared. Nothing else changed in the home network (which was Eero except for the gateway router). Voodoo nonsense, except it really happened.

@soffronoff It happens over cellular too. No idea what the deal is (and so far, no one I’ve been able to reach at Apple does either).

@siracusa do you have Apple Private Relay on? If so, try turning it off. This is the fix for Okta 503 errors. Private relay does too good of a job and SSO serves cannot track you through the whole sign in process
