Organic Maps did a great social media thing, kudos.
Personaly, I still prefer @CoMaps, where the lake is also still called the same.
Because both get their data from @openstreetmap <3

Cute. Since the project is maintained by a Russian and has Abkhazia and South Ossetia as independent states in its repository... looks a lot like they have their own dictator to follow.
Same is true for CoMaps btw.

@lavaeolus @ditol @map_per If you look at the map (in CoMaps) and the OSM data, both are given the label as `place=country` but are not mapped as a 'country' with borders/boundaries.
The OSM wiki outlines the status quo for mapping in https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Disputed_territories#Europe and CoMaps for now just follows the existing state of data in OSM.
The problem with any filtering/editing is that it will open a can of worms for all of those places on the wiki page.

And my general point of OSM >> corporate map services like Google/Apple Maps stands strong, this hasn't change.
(Also my preference of CoMaps over Organic Maps)
@lavaeolus @ditol @map_per yeah, it was just to give some more context as maps are always political and there's always uneasy compromises that need to be made somewhere.
E.g. "Maps are illegal in India for not displaying the government-mandated boundaries for Kashmir" - should that be done? For everyone? Users in that country? And how far a step is that to Gulf of America/Lake America? https://codeberg.org/comaps/comaps/issues/2964
