i am getting "office of academic integrity" verdicts from chatbot cases i submitted *last fall*
meaning i now have to go back to my records and submit final grades
also meaning it took staff this long to clear those cases from their books

i don't use "detectors" and i simply ask students to not use gen tools. the cases i catch reading student work myself are extremely egregious. and fortunately, pretty few. but the amount of time spent on each seems to easily be two full weeks of work for me and a staff member
(i don't like reporting students but it's my least-bad option because they're often doing it because they need uni support, it's not fair to other students to look away, & at undergrad level, the "penalty" is minor)
also indicative of the working conditions: the link the staff members have sent me to change the grade doesn't work. i have to email them back for the correct info. every single thing in all of our work processes is like this
and it compounds: i got this email a few days ago. waited to click the link until i actually had time to walk through the next steps, but not having the info i need when i have the window of time to complete the task sets me back by a few more days
multiply all of this times how many people work for my institution (literally tens of thousands). we are all overworked and structurally incapable of not wasting each other's time

it is not helpful to have at some point been steeped in (an idiosyncratic slice of) sociology of organizations + technology literature, combined with having exactly zero power to make anything better
