@farah FWIW, some folks' attention model won't let them drift off it there is something holding their focus, no matter how comforting.
@valthonis I have that. I don’t even like random white noise. Only thing works is probably heavy rain noise.
@farah I have a fun variant where sometimes my mind will seize on a sound: a song snippet, a lyric, a violin run, a car horn… and then play it on loop while I am trying to sleep. The only way I've found to reliably dislodge it and get any rest is to give my ears something rhythmic to lock onto without words. The resurgence of lo-fi as a meta genre has been a godsend in this regard.
