At 1Password, we support developer and open-source communities because they're an important part of the ecosystem our customers rely on. We have a long history of supporting open source projects, including the Linux, Rails, and Rust Foundations. We chose to support Omarchy because it is a growing Linux environment that developers use and value, and because 1Password already had a meaningful presence in that community. Contributing to the Omacom Foundation is intended to support hosting infrastructure and provides stable, long-term funding for the upstream open-source projects and maintainers on which Omarchy depends. We recognize that Omarchy is closely associated with its founder, and that raises questions about what our support means. Our contribution is made to the Omacom Foundation, not to an individual, and is not an endorsement of any individual's personal or political views. 1Password does not endorse hateful, dehumanizing, or exclusionary views. The patronage is also separate from product decisions. It includes no requirements or guarantees related to product placement, exclusivity, endorsement, or roadmap influence. While I appreciate getting a response to this, even if it is corporate boilerplate, I am incredibly disappointed in said response. If you actually cared about contributions and funding to upstream projects and components in the Linux ecosystem, you could have simply donated money to any of those upstream projects (such as Arch Linux itself), or even something like OpenCollective, and it would have had much more of an impact. Instead, you chose to commit $300,000 to Omarchy (a glorified set of dotfiles and hyprland configurations that provide nothing of substance back to Linux itself) and become its first corporate sponsor that is not simply one of DHH's other companies. To claim that this decision is because you "support developer and open-source communities" is honestly insulting, given Omarchy's creator DHH is independently wealthy and could easily fund his vanity project himself. Furthermore, to suggest that Omarchy/Omacom is merely "closely associated" with its founder is simply absurd. Omacom has no published board, no publicly available information about how (or even if) it was incorporated, and the only known member is DHH himself, a darling of the growing fascist movement in the tech industry who has now written racist diatribes calling for ethnic cleansing in Europe multiple times in the last several years. You cannot separate a founder's beliefs from the mission of their foundations or companies, and Omarchy and its foundation provide a new way for him to gain relevance and grow his platform, something that can only lead to the spread of more hatred. Your donation fuels this and has permanently damaged your company's reputation. As for the waning trust I placed in 1Password, there's no longer anything for you to be grateful for: it has now completely evaporated, I will continue to evaluate alternatives for an export of my 1Password account before my next billing cycle, and I will be recommending that every person I know to do the same for their personal and corporate accounts.
