Despite the website actively advertising it, the Vintage Computer Festival GB (Sep 11-13) has been _CANCELLED_ at the last minute. The ticketing site is down; they are apparently going to issue refunds. All of this only communicated via a Facebook page. 🤦🏻
I'd highly recommend heading to @lpoolmakefest that Sunday 13th instead (I'll be there!); or, if you're in the London area and not planning to head up that way, there are some great tech events happening at the South Bank Centre that weekend.
@andypiper @lpoolmakefest It had surprised me just how little promotion I had seen about VCF GB. For an event that really should be a big deal for folks here, I would expect to see loads of chatter about it. I guess maybe it was inevitable then.
@rc2014 evidently (per FB) the organiser was surprised by requirements from the venue, and had to cancel 2 weeks from kick off.
Like you I’ve also been baffled by the lack of major promotion (and I’d suggested places they could have shared it, like Hackaday etc, which they ignored). Oh well.
I was attracted by the name and reputation of the VCF events in the US, but that seems completely misplaced.
@andypiper @rc2014 VCF is kind of a loose franchise. VCF East and VCF Montreal have the same showrunner and have a similar vibe. VCF Midwest is completely different.
Being part of VCF can be a mixed blessing. It's a shame that show's cancelled but maybe the VCF model doesn't fit the UK as well
