Got roped into helping an elderly neighbour pick plums off multiple trees. Definitely didn't have time to do that, but it was really nice chatting with her, she let me pat her hairless cat (!!) and now I have probably 50 pounds of really tasty plums that I need to figure out what to do with (a very good problem to have).
@sundogplanets plum butter. Minimal ingredients, and can be canned or frozen.
@sundogplanets
We have two damson trees in the back yard. We've usually just cooked juice from them with a steam juicer.
It's very nice of you to help the elderly person to pick them off trees. The thing with these is that you can't just let them fall to the ground and rot, because then your lawn will be covered in sticky goo.
Last fall though we just gave them away for free because we're short of storage space for juice. Probably will do so this year too.
All these recipes! Recipes, recipes, and more recipes 😡
Is nobody else seeing the obvious - get a Tom Stanton hypersonic trebuchet, and start taking down those cluttering satellites with high velocity stone fruit.
@sundogplanets I suggest making brandy from that many plums.
@sundogplanets
Plum jam!! My wife made a batch yesterday and it is SOOO good on her home-made English muffins. Plum jam is what you want.
@sundogplanets eat some, freeze the rest untill you figure out what to do.
@SomeVeganCheeseIsOk I can't remember if I've already told you this, but every time I see your fediverse name it makes me giggle. Thank you.
@sundogplanets I recommend Pflaumenmus, German plum butter. One of the world's great preserves.
that's what pigs are for.
300 lbs of rutabaga? pigs
100 lbs of plums? pigs
trespassers? pigs
@coolcalmcollected Yeah, goats are definitely not as good at eating trespassers...
@sundogplanets I love german style plum cake. Can be made with frozen ones. Cut them into for pieces and remove the pit. Freeze them loosely on a sheet. Once froze you can bag them into ziplock bags.

@majeriisli wow that looks amazing!
@sundogplanets
Umeboshi is great but I don't think you can use ripe plums for that.
@sundogplanets plum-ginger jam! 😍
@sundogplanets donate to a food bank or soup kitchen?
@sundogplanets I suggest Spiced Plum Jam. So delicious!
