@wendinoakland I think Mastodon attracts a very nerdy and often socially sidelined audience—some of which are then having power fantasies on here (this sort of behavior is probably evenly spread among the total population?). So like everywhere else you get assholes on here, it's just often nerd-coded (grammar corrections, alt-text police, "go back to twitter" crowd, etc.)
