If we didn't have nothing to hide, passwords wouldn't be a thing. ☝🏻
“If you have nothing to suspect, you have nothing to surveil.”
@Tutanota A free country doesn't tax the poor
@Tutanota Nice words about privacy, but the actual practice tells a different story. You market yourselves as the ethical alternative to Google, criticizing how it disrespects user privacy. So how am I supposed to understand that when I use a VPN to protect my identity, you block me from creating an account? I get that this might be to prevent fraud, but the result is that you're tying my account to my real location from the very first moment.
@Tutanota I just ask them what color their underwear is. And to prove it.
Makes the point quickly.
@Tutanota The best response to this I have heard comes from Finch in Person of Interest.
"People who say that they have nothing to hide, usually do."
@Tutanota but if it's free then you are the product. What's the catch

@Tutanota an innocent government has nothing to hide from its citizens
@Tutanota A free country also doesn't track *all* of its citizens just because a few of them might not be innocent.
When a free country surveilles its citizens, it's no longer a free country.
@Tutanota I was applying with a temp agency once and asked them if I could request a waiver of the private arbitration clause in the contract (my previous agency had a waiver process).
The agent got huffy about it, said "That language shouldn't matter unless you plan to commit a crime."
I responded, "My constitutional right to a jury trial shouldn't matter unless you plan on falsely accusing me of one." That didn't go over great.
Fascists love bumper-sticker slogans they can scream at people. Saves them from thinking.
"If you're not doing anything wrong..." was resounding from their bell-shaped heads after Trayvon Martin was murdered by an entire piece of shit.
Most of the herd love to take fascists words and reinforce them, rather than dismantle them.
It's why 'pro-life' exists. They made it up, but everyone else uses it without thinking how destructive it is just by existing and being said.
