@AnarchoNinaWrites Perhaps they should publish something realistic. Like how the odds of a white person who works for the Guardian being invited to a Black cookout aren't good.
If someone wants to die on a hill with better odds, they could always stand up there during a thunderstorm with bare feet and a big umbrella.
@YakyuNightOwl In fairness, he says barbeque throughout - cookout was just me translating.
@AnarchoNinaWrites Perhaps his definition is paper plates of microwaved beans and meat with the tenderness of logging boots.
In that case, I should give him some room for complaint.
@YakyuNightOwl Literally the guy is an asshole and thinks that the reason he doesn't enjoy BBQs is the BBQ, not that he's an asshole.
He even bitches about kids getting served first. I would not believe it if I hadn't read it with my own eyes:
@AnarchoNinaWrites Ooof. Was this one ever a child?
@AnarchoNinaWrites ... "Fundamentally unenjoyable"?
Like, I can't even eat the food, but, the fundamental *nature* of a barbecue - 'let's get all the people we get along with together in a place with some fire and make a bunch of food' - is kind of a core human activity, that seem to be near universal across culture and time. It is arguably one of the most fundamentally enjoyable human experiences, unless you hate the people you're there with.
@miss_rodent Will it surprise you to learn the guy who wrote the column looks like this? (Pic just under the title)
@AnarchoNinaWrites ... Ah, that makes more sense.
Where does the guardian even did these people up? Or do they take submissions?
... Can I get paid to send completely unhinged shitposts to the guardian?
Also, dear Guardian - I know you think these 'The Hill I Will Die On" articles are a great way to demonstrate your everyman credentials and say "we are speaking about the issues REAL people ACTUALLY care about" but that doesn't really work if you keep letting bougie weirdos with stupid opinions write the columns.
Ain't no "normal" person big mad about being invited to a "messy" cookout, just like no real human being wants you to take out your earpods to hear the "music of humanity."
Pls stop
