#CrowUpdate I was in my room, when suddenly I heard some crows shouting outside (large-billed crow sounds) and there was a very violent fight in the sky. It involved at least four crows, and they were attacking each other with the intent of injuring or worse, not just chasing off. At some point it looked like three of them fell on the ground a few blocks away. So, I quickly went outside, I found no trace of the fight, but saw both Mr and Ms Crow on poles and cables by the estuary.
⤵️
I don't know if they were involved in the fight or not. I don't think Mr Crow was, shortly before I left, I saw a shape that looked like a crow flying from the park to the estuary. And I don't think he can fight aerial fights yet. Ms Crow seemed fine. A bit disheveled, but it doesn't mean anything, it's molting seasons, all crows look disheveled at the moment. The only other birds around were black kites (thinking about it, I barely saw any this summer, I guess they hide from the heat too). ⤵️
I gave peanuts on a spot where I sometimes leave them when I spot the crows by the estuary. Ms Crow came down right away and landed right next to me, but then realized that this was "too close" and jumped a little further away until I put some distance between myself and the peanuts. ⤵️
I brought four peanuts and left them all there, but either Mr Crow didn't see them or can't land there (it's a bit tricky, and his flying abilities are still not back to normal) and he looked at me all sad (I know they don't have facial expressions, but I still could read "what about me?" in the way he looked at me and moved on the cable.
So I showed him my empty hands, and... he followed me home...
Apart from that, no sign of Junior, it's been more than 10 days now, so ⤵️
So we can assume s/he has left for good (? Junior 2023 returned for a few days in October, but I never saw any of the subsequent kids again, so we'll see with Junior 2026).
Also, the crows have been more rare in the park lately as you may know, but now I spotted them at that spot (the edge of their territory, by the estuary) several times in the past few days. I wonder if ⤵️
