Fifteen years ago, "Blockchain will replace DNS" was super annoying.
Fourteen years ago, it was noticed that blockchain variants are trivial to block on the wire with deep packet inspection.
DPI has improved markedly since that time.
Now because of A/I domains being seized, "blockchain will replace DNS" is popping up again.
tl;dr, No, it won't.
@drwho It's amazing how much blockchain was an explicit compromise — if we make everything visible and auditable and totally non-private forever will law enforcement let us move money — and then every single attempted use for it isn't that shape.
@d_rift Yeah. It's yet another case of completely ignoring reality and common sense (and fairly recent history).
@drwho @d_rift plus, blockchain (as in the context of different *coin projects) is a *technically* decentralized system that tends towards centralization through economies of scale.
It is no accident that most Bitcoin mining power is in the hands of precious few gigantic mining cartels.
And anyone who thinks they would never actually (ab)use this power when it suits them needs to read up about The DAO and the related hard fork.
