I was this close to starting to try and write my own macOS clock widget to display UTC under my regular clock, since I often forget the math to calculate UTC from whatever time zone I'm in (and whatever daylight savings offset there might be!).

After I identified my need, I took a few minutes to search for existing solutions. I found a couple paid apps on the app store, and one open source one that was build in Objective-C that seemed popular, but I didn't like the look of it.

I then started to fire up a terminal session to start building one, but then paused to look at the built-in widgets for something appropriate, and found a solution that was good enough, preventing me from actually building something bespoke, and then requiring my own attention to maintain it.

It was a solid reminder that taking a few minutes to frame the problem at hand, and then explore the marketplace for what has already been done, sample a few to see if they are good enough before building something from scratch.
