It feels like every few days now I learn that someone who had engineering opinions I thought were terrible also has social and political opinions that are reprehensible.
@david_chisnall I noteit happening, from time to time, but I think it's just our personal confirm bias.
At the same time, we find shocking (again for the same bias) that some project we love or depend upon has been founded or supported by people misbehaving somewhere else.
When the second case happens, I take distance from the project, if my support may collaterally affect the bad behavior (like providing money for a legal activity, that indirectly favors a criminal one).
@david_chisnall Yes . One of the few consistent factors of our chaotic era.
@david_chisnall Mmm…
A related, if fanciful, thought I had the other day is how this cross-topic sketchy opinion-disclosure makes it seem like there's some place these people all go to to pick up the opinions they're regurgitating at us.
Bit like the Armando Iannucci sketch with people being fed lines: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jK2WeQEGLNE
