Academic system failure:
It's not important that #Cofnas is a racist. It's important that he is a shit philosopher, who doesn't (want to) understand human behavioural genetics. He twists and cherry-picks his evidence to support racist dogma.
He won't be fired because his views are indeed vile. He'll be fired because his methods fail to adhere to basic standards of research.
If you keep on supporting him, you endorse the ensloppification of academia. This has nothing to do with free speech.
The biggest irony about this disgusting little racist is that his approach is utterly #postmodern. He seems to truly believe that he can invoke nonexistent genetic differences in humans by simply claiming their reality, over and over again.
I've called this #PhilosophicalTrumpism. Trump never lies, but everything he says *becomes* truth instantly. In his mind, at least.
Same for #Cofnas. Everything is discourse. And everything turns to #bullshit... truly hateful bullshit, in his case.
So, if you keep on signing multiple letters a year in support of #Cofnas, then you either don't understand (or are actively opposed) to basic quality standards in research, or you condone his racism. Or both.
It seems to me that this disqualifies the signatories themselves. They are not serious academics.
And, while we're at it: what about Bouke de Vries, the man who hired #Cofnas "because he was the best candidate..."? Is he being investigated? He has an #ERC grant too.
There are many excellent people who don't get funding in this system. How is it possible, then, that scum like that floats?
The system is being gamed, left and right, and what dies is actual curiosity-driven exploration. It has all become one big polarized political game by now.
