@ireneista @vivtek voice assistants still haven’t reached the level of the infocom or inform parsers or physics models, and I maintain that a glulx VM hooked up to a selection of APIs with optional voice recognition would handily outdo every existing voice assistant, enable complex clauses, enable standardized shorthands (x lightbulbs in room), and work well for both voice and text input

and other than voice recognition sucking, it wouldn’t be stochastic

The classic MacOS speech recognition APIs were still in OS X last time I looked (over ten years ago) and they work surprisingly well because they’re solving a nicely constrained problem. They look for specific phrases and, at least in the toy things I built with them, they worked very well for this. This kind of thing for simple home automation would be great but it lacks the ability to integrate buying stuff from Amazon with the core functionality of a light switch.
