“these are the last state-owned Confederate statues on non-museum display in Richmond” #RVA #Virginia #Confederacy #PublicMemory https://www.vpm.org/news/2023-09-21/stonewall-jackson-confederate-monument-virginia-capitol-square-curious-commonwealth/
This is the end of a very long era here in Virginia.
@Lyle One fun thing to do in Richmond is to go to the Edgar Allen Poe museum in Richmond, which is as much a monument to a collective act of an obsessive fan subculture as it is of Poe himself, and remember that the Poe "shrine" was being built and the museum's extensive collection assembled around the same time that the monuments were being put in.
I got nothing written to associate the two but it's hard not to see it as "the earliest modern goths saw what was happening on Monument Ave. and said nuh huh we're gonna stan our own legend."
