@cstross The robot cockroach plays a tinny version of The Girl From Ipanema as it approaches. It’s meant to soothe you as you receive its payload of euthanasia drugs.

@cstross This was part of the plot of a movie which traumatized me as a child (unfortunately, I don't recall the film name). The villain used cybernetic insects which killed their victims by injecting them with some sort of poison. The final confrontation had the hero on a construction elevator with its controls locked, while a swam of the insects waited on the ground floor. The hero unlocked the lift, got off on a higher floor, and kicked the villain into the waiting swarm.

@cstross In London during WW2 (and for all I know, in Kiev etc now despite their expertise in drones) one of the Air Raid rescue teams' items of equipment was a long stick, with a clamp for a syringe at one end, and a mechanism for shoving the plunger connected to the other.
It might be threaded through unstable rubble to a casualty to provide Morphine hopefully to improve their life before they were extracted.
