This was necessary because the post the gate is hinged on has moved about 15mm off vertical at the top since installation. The contractor should have welded a top rail on the posts to prevent this.

I am tempted to also move the original bolt latch so it goes into the post again. I’d need to expand the hole about 2mm at the top and then spray galv it.
